HEAL - RENEW - PROTECT

As with any of my recipes, remedies, or opinions, it is important that you check with a qualified health care professional before treating yourself or your family with any new herb. I am not a trained herbalist, naturopath, or health care professional, so these recipes, remedies and opinions are offered for informational purposes only.

You may double the water amount to make two delicious cups without worrying about flavor loss on any of these recipes.

As there is no known cure for Rheumatism (for now) there are a few ways to alleviate the pain with varying degrees of relief from minor to substantial. These natural herbs have been known, through the properties they possess, to be able to help with the pain:

Aloe Vera; topically or orally

Cat's Claw*

Eucalyptus**

Ginger

Green Tea

Thyme

Devil's Claw#

Cinnamon

Black Pepper

Borage Seed Oil

Turmeric

Willow Bark***

Boswellia []

Thunder God Vine****!!!

See Cautions Below

ELDERBERRY SYRUP

I really love the benefits of the elderberry and love its flavor

1 C Dried Elderberries

4  C Water

1 C Honey (raw, unfiltered, local prefered)

The next ingredients are optional:

2 - 3 inch stick of Cinnamon

2 - 3 Cloves

1 Tb Ginger

In a large pot, bring the Elderberries, Water,

optional ingredients: Cinnamon, Cloves, and Ginger,

to a rolling boil.

Reduce heat to simmer and keep simmering until the liquid is reduced to ALMOST half (about 3/4) stirring frequently.

Once cooled, strain water in a separate bowl using cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer.

If not using optional ingredients:

Separate Elderberries from liquid into a mortar and pestle then grind until paste is formed then put back in pot with the liquid and simmer until its about one half of original liquid amount. You will see seeds floating. This is fine.

Strain again using cheese cloth and squeeze liquid out.

Discard remaining solids.

Here you can either, when cooled, add Honey and mix well

or you can warm up liquid no higher than 95 °F (35 °C) and stir in honey till thoroughly mixed and take off heat.

Store refrigerated in a glass airtight container for up to 2.5 months and enjoy!

The argument on whether honey loses any benefits or beneficial enzymes at high temps and/or for certain lengths of time at higher temps are a bit confusing.

The temperatures I gave are safe temperatures. What I DO know is that if you take that same recipe and add either another cup of honey and a few cups of sugar or the honey and some corn syrup and keep it on a high heat reaching 320 °F (160 °C) it WILL TURN!

(more on what it "will turn" to on my "---" page.)

Stronger Rheumatism Relief Cautions

* Possible side effects include:

Nausea and dizziness

Low blood pressure

Headache

Should not use if you:

Use blood thinners

Take meds that suppress immune system

Have tuberculosis

** Dilute 15 drops of eucalyptus oil in 2 tablespoons of almond or another neutral oil.

Test yourself for allergies

(small amount of diluted product on forearm)

if no reaction in 24 to 48 hours then it should be safe to use.

*** Can use in tea or tablet form.

However, there are some conflicting results in certain research facilities.

Common side effects include:

Upset stomach

High blood pressure

Stomach ulcers and bleeding in case of overdose.

If you have stomach ulcers and/or using blood thinners ask your doctor first.

Do not take if you have allergies to aspirin.

[] This is also known as INDIAN FRANKINCENSE!

Some probably didn't know you can actually eat frankincense.

Its slightly bitter and crunchy at first but then chews like a gum.

Can be taken via capsules/tablets if you can't get the resin.

1 gram of Boswellia per day for no longer than 6 months.

Can be taken by using a topical cream as well.

****!!! You can use it:

as a topical treatment directly to the skin

by mouth as a dietary supplement.

This is probably something that I wouldn't use as it has too many harmful variables to include death.

These very serious negative effects include but are not limited to:

Gastrointestinal problems

Respiratory infections

Hair loss

Headache

Skin rash(es)

Menstrual changes

Fertility reduction in males due to changes in sperm

The possibility of their being a reduction in bone density after 5 years or more of use.

Many RA and other autoimmune meds can interact with TGV.

Extracts from the wrong part of the vine can be toxic.

If prepared incorrectly it can be deadly.

Use this natural herb at your own risk.

There are too many less dangerous herbs out there to worry about using TGV.

I just put this in here because it is one used in other countries.

# Devil's claw is a powerful herb and you may know that its been used in the treatment of degenerative issues, amongst other issues, in horses, although it has been banned by the FEI

(International Federation for Equestrian Sports... I know... I know... But IFE was already taken)

you can still get the herb for human consumption.

It is quite strong and is a bit harder to prepare as you would need to steep the root (powdered or chopped) into hot water for hours as opposed to minutes for most roots and rhizomes.

1.5 to 4.5 grams of this root in 2 cups of water steeped for about 7 hours will give you enough to drink throughout the day in 2 or 3 doses. Overuse is strongly discouraged.
